99 Miata Engine Swap

Ken originally brought his beautiful 99 NB1 in this winter to do a clutch swap. After doing it successfully and doing a basic inspection we noticed that the crank pulley was very wobbly. During a test drive, the car just felt really doggy. Using a timing light we determined the timing was off 5 degrees. Assuming the timing and crank were related we requested to do a timing belt change. After digging into it we determined there was some severe damage to the crank. We determined that the last tech reused the woodruff key which seemed to be damaged already...

Here is my Dad's 1999 NB1. It only has 80k miles and is his second Miata. It is mechanically in perfect shape but needed some work in the aesthetic department. Overall it is in great shape, with the expected chips and scratches of any 20-year-old car. Here is MiataSources first service job! This is Daves 1999 that came with the dreadful automatic transmission. Dave requested a full OEM manual conversion and a few upgrades as well. On this job we decided to remove the engine and transmission together, the reason we did this was one we planned to reseal the oil pan which requires removing the engine. Once the engine/transmission was removed we were ready to start the conversion.
